Solo/Ensemble is one of the best activities for young musicians! It greatly improves their timing, independence, and expressivity. I highly recommend that all students get involved. The cost is $18 for solos and $23 for ensembles, but it should also be considered that the original scores and accompanist fees will be an extra cost.
September: Select a piece. Ask Mr. Guenther for books, or search online for repertoire! For example, here are example repertoire lists for flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion.
October: PRACTICE. Find an accompanist.
November: PRACTICE. Purchase two original copies of your music.
December: PRACTICE MORE. We're at school less, so you have more time to practice!
January: PRACTICE. Make sure Mr. Guenther registers you immediately after break!!
February: PRACTICE. Solo/ensemble is the third weekend of this month.
April: If you win your division, or get selected as an alternate, you could play at State! It is the last weekend of April at Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. Make sure you have an accompanist!
