CAN I TAKE MUSIC ALL 4 YEARS AND STILL GRADUATE AND GO TO COLLEGE?
ABSOLUTELY!! Colleges prefer students with consistent musical involvement, because it shows dedication and work ethic. Here is an example of a basic four-year plan. Students can also take online classes to help ease their credit gridlock. Ask your counselor for more details!
WHAT TIME ARE THE CONCERTS?
Unless otherwise noted, all concerts start at 7:00 PM and are held in the Kingston HS commons.
Our concerts for the 2019-20 year are NOV 7, DEC 19, MAR 19, and JUN 4.
WHAT IS BAND CAMP?
Band camp is highly recommended for all band students to adequately prepare for the year. It is a day camp at the high school in August. Total cost for the week, including clinicians and food, is $75 per student. It is a great opportunity for team-building, ice-breaking, and getting a jump start on pep band music, parade marching, and team-building before school starts.
ALL I WANT TO DO IS MARCH (OR PLAY JAZZ). DO I HAVE TO BE IN CONCERT BAND?
Yes. Concert band is an integral part of our music program, providing students with a place to sharpen their music fundamentals (tone production, intonation, music theory) unlike any other ensembles. Students must enroll in a concert band before playing in marching band, jazz band, solo/ensemble, or any other activities outside of the school day.
ALL I WANT TO DO IS CONCERT BAND. DO I HAVE TO DO THE OTHER STUFF?
Yes. Football band (Sep. + Oct.), basketball pep band (Dec. thru Feb.), and parade marching (all year) are required for all students enrolled in band. This gives us a large, strong group for public appearances and provides students with a well-rounded music education.
HOW CAN PARENTS GET INVOLVED?
Join the Band Boosters! They meet the 2nd Wednesday of every month (6:30 PM in the band room). This group is pivotal for our program, as they provide fundraising opportunities, chaperoning, and so much more. Visit them at khsbb.org.
